BIBLE STUDY SPIRITUAL STUDIO CONFIRMATION SUNDAY SCHOOL FIRST COMMUNION CHILDREN'S SERMON
Spiritual Studio

All are invited to the newly created "Spiritual Studio." You don’t need to be a member of First English Lutheran, you don’t need to be Lutheran, everyone is welcome. We will gather together on the 2nd Thursday and 4th Sunday of every month, starting with Thursday October 8th. We will meet from 6:30-8:00pm here at First English Lutheran Church. Child care will be available for the Thursday night Studios, though children are encouraged to participate.

We will be coming together to experience scripture passages in a new and exciting way. Each separate Spiritual Studio will have its own scripture passage. We will spend about an hour working either on our own, or if desired, with a group, to express how that passage effects you spiritually through some form of artistic outlet. Create a painting, draw a picture, write a poem, journal your thoughts and feelings, write a song, or whatever else you may think of doing, we will be expressing ourselves spiritually through art. After about an hour we will gather together as a group and those who want to share, can briefly share what he or she has created. Again, this event is for anyone and everyone, no matter what religious background you may have. It is meant to experience scripture through a different Spiritual way, whether or not you can quote scripture passages, or you have no religious history.

Basic art supplies will be provided, and snacks and drinks will also be available. The address for the church is 3807 N. Charles St. Baltimore 21218 Please enter the church from the 39th street entrance. Any questions please contact Vicar Joel Folkemer at 410-235-2356 or e-mail him at jfolkemer@ltsg.edu

Schedule for Spiritual Studio and verses

October 8, 2009

  • Luke 1:46-55
    • And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

October 25, 2009

  • Psalm 100
    • Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing.
Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.
For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

  • Romans 8:31-39
    • What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else? Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

November 22, 2009

  • Romans 13:11-14
    • Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires

  • Luke 3:15-17
    • As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, John answered all of them by saying, “I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”
